Original postcards sent to Sophus and Eline Winther from Carlotta O’Neill 1933-1944

#1 – Photo of Casa Genotta – text: “Casa Genotta-Sea Island-Bless you, dear Lady, for your more than charming letter.  I can’t reply now as I am standing on my head in trunks – going thro’ lists – paying bills - & getting ready to depart.  We leave tomorrow for N.Y. – will be there only three days – with every hour a business appointment – then on to the Adirondacks for two months, - if nothing unforeseen occurs. (cont. to card #2)

#2 – note from Carlotta continued:  “Casa Genotta ’33  If Mr. Winther should come East we will not be in N.Y. until Sept. “if” rehearsals are started.  We do not know, as yet, about production – Mr. O’Neill must look things over in New York before deciding whether it is wise or not to let a play be produced this Season.  I will write you later when I know more about it all myself. – I would be so happy if you and your husband (con’t to postcard #3)

#3 could visit us here someday.  As this is our home & I am old fashioned enough, to have that mean a lot to me! - I thought your husband was Danish – Tell him my father’s name was Christian Nielsen Taasinge – he & his were always born in Denmark – years back on an island of that same name, I believe!  I felt he must be a (cont. to #4)

#4 Front is a photo of Blemie with inscription “Casa Genotta, Sea Island, Ga.  Mr. O’Neill & our beloved  “Blemie” Carlotta continues “Dane & told my husband so! – Again – let me say this is really not an answer to your enchanting letter – but only an acknowledgement of it.  Our thanks and our best wishes always – Bless you both – Carlotta Monterey O’Neill  July 28th 1933”

#5 Photo of Casa Genotta in distance – “Dear Sophus Winther – You & Eline are dears - & that’s that!  So don’t worry about nerves etc. – My husband is the shyest person in the world.  I brazen out my timidity – so we’ll get on all right!  Our best to you both – Carlotta Monterey O’Neill Casa Genotta June 12th ’36”

#6 Photo of Casa Genotta panorama – “Dear Sophus Winther – We will be delighted to have you here “about” the 22cd of August.  (Oh, dear – I hope you won’t hate the heat too much!) – Just let me know what will be your first meal with us -  as catering here is not easy as you in the towns know it!!!  It will be so lovely having you both with us - .  I am thoroughly demoralized by the heat - & wear few clothes!  Please let me know if you have rec’s this – Our best to the Winthers,  Very sincerely, Carlotta Monterey O’Neill 8/3/36”

#7  Photo of EON in terry striped robe on postcard  “- Monday – My dear Child – You mustn’t write me such letters – I will be struck dumb with shyness on your arrival.  I am a middle-aged homekeeper, secretary, nurse, wife & friend of the O’Neill – But we’ll be delighted to see you & Sophus - & beg (cont. to next card)

#8 Photo of O’Neill in striped polo shirt.  “of you to expect no dressing! – The heat is so demoralizing.  I don’t want to know the exact hour of your arrival but, if convenient, would like to know the first meal you’ll be here for.  You breakfast – in your own room – luncheon 1/30 - & dinner 7/30 – Our best to you both – Carlotta Monterey O’Neill”

#9 Photo of snow in patio at Tao House.  “Dear Eline:- Tother side was last March 14th – Sunny California!  Oh – I do hope one result of all this worrying War will be to return us to the East Coast! - ?  Have you finished the two books you took with you from here?  If so, could we have them – as I want to read them.  Like everyone else we are up to our necks in all thins to do with War.  Health none too good.  Even the old lady has her back strapped & is sleeping on boards. I find the latter more comfortable!  Freeman will be drafted soon which leaves us pretty lost.  Our love to you both – Carlotta 4/19/42”
