To Richard Madden

Provincetown, Mass.
Nov. 22, 1919.

My dear Mr. Madden:

I am enclosing herewith a letter from Virginia University regarding "In The Zone".  I am also writing them to refer to you in this matter.

Would you mind kindly letting me know just how I stand on this play?  If I remember the contract correctly, Lewis & Gordon, as vaudeville producers, lost their rights by failing to produce it ten weeks last season; but as the heirs to the W.S.P. I suppose they still control it.  Did I understand you to say that when you saw Lewis last spring he seemed willing to relinquish his hold on "The Rope" and "In The Zone"?  This Little Theatre fifty-fifty split must be only a piffling annoyance to him, and getting his permission every time holds up matters for me.

This business is important because, as "In The Zone" is now published in two different books there is liable to be some call for it.  It's all male cast makes it meat for college dramatic clubs, for instance.

Thanking you for this information, with very best regards

Very sincerely yours,

Eugene G. O'Neill.
